Textbook Of Parasitology
This volume represents the third edition of a book originally entitled Textbook of Clinical Parasitology (1942). It differs somewhat in organization from earlier editions in that chapters which dealt with pathology, immunity, transmission, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of parasitic diseases now follow instead of precede those chapters on specific groups of organisms. Following the introductory chapter which deals with historical aspects, definitions and general biological attributes of animal parasites, the present edition devotes nine chapters to parasitic protozoa, ten to parasitic roundworms and twelve to parasitic flatworms. Fourteen chapters deal with arthropods of medical importance; ten are concerned with information of a general or technical nature and two are devoted to chemotherapy. The author has added new chapters on the Leishmania, Toxoplasma and Pneumocystis, and on the Molluscan Hosts of Trematode Parasites. He has expanded the text in most subjects in keeping with acquisition of knowledge, a fact which is reflected by the very comprehensive list of authors and institutions whose publications were consulted.
